About the project
“electrotango AUDIOVISUAL” is thought to be an experimental, collaborative video-and-sound performance about and within Electrotango. It aims to tell small stories and anecdotes from the scene: unique, deep, personal, or fun. For example “that one unforgettable dance”, “the homesick artist on tour”, “the hard work behind a performance”, or one very concrete anecdote: “Diego’s beer bottle”. Each video tells its own story and, within a larger context, together they form an intimate and relatable portrait of human beings in an artistic niche such as Electrotango.
I initiated the project as part of my final thesis at the University of Arts in Zürich. My goal is to launch an interdisciplinary artistic Electrotango performance format that thrives through collaborations with other artists working in the Electrotango scene or who are curious about it. The structure of “electrotango AUDIOVISUAL” is inspired by music albums, which I expand with a visual layer: videos, sounds, and songs created to be performed on stage, watched, and listened to. Video is understood as an instrument in the band. I will create the video performances for the project myself and take care of the planning and structure (yes, like the Swiss cliché, I enjoy detailed organisation 😉).
I see “electrotango AUDIOVISUAL” as a collection of audiovisual pieces with different possibilities and formats of presentation. It should remain open and adaptable to new ideas and collaborations. One fixed event is the NeoTango-Nights 2027 in Zürich, where it will be performed, whatever form it may take by then.

Invitation for collaboration
I’m very curious to get in touch with every artist who is interested in taking part in “electrotango AUDIOVISUAL”!
Any form of collaboration is possible: sharing sound, samples, songs, video material, knowledge, thoughts and ideas, or being a critical friend. You choose how much you want to be involved — from just sending me a sample, to working with me on a clip, all the way to becoming a co-organizer 😊.
To take part, your work or idea should be connected to Electrotango in some way, and you should be open to collaborating with other participants in an experimental way.
Here are some concrete ways to participate:
- Send me sounds, samples, or songs that somehow match the project topics and let me work with them → responsibility is mine.
- Work together with me on one of the topics as a sound artist → responsibility is shared.
- Ask me for video material on one of the topics and create the sound for it → responsibility is yours.
- If you are a video artist, collaborate with me on the video performances (if you’re interested, let’s talk about how we could do it).
- Support the project in another way: with tips and advice, through your network, with donations, with a place to present it, or in any other form.
“electrotango AUDIOVISUAL” will be shown at the diploma exhibition at the University of the Arts and at NeoTango-Nights 2027 in Zürich, and hopefully in other places as well.
Compensation: a promise — all money generated by the “electrotango AUDIOVISUAL” project will be shared fairly among all participating artists.
If you are interested in collaborating or have any questions, contact me on Instagram (byyara.art), WhatsApp (+41 76 681 67 70), or email (yara.peretti@zhdk.ch), and just tell me what you would be interested in doing within “electrotango AUDIOVISUAL”.
I’m looking forward to your ideas!
Future perspectives
My long-term goal is to create a flexible format for audiovisual performance in Electrotango, as the available performance spaces and participating people are always different. I aim to develop a concept that can be adapted to the artists and conditions available for each performance, perhaps even independently of me.
Through the strong focus on collaboration in “electrotango AUDIOVISUAL”, I also see the possibility of creating a community platform for and about Electrotango artists and organizers that grows out of the project. This could, for example, be used to announce tours, discover new artists, or look for collaboration and support. From the perspective of a European organizer, such a platform would make life easier. This idea is based on the strong conviction that working with each other instead of competing with each other will help both individual artists and the whole scene move forward.
If you now think I’m a little too ambitious, I’d say yes, that’s definitely possible. But there is one thing I know about making things happen: if there is no vision, things will never come into being.
